From sadness and loneliness to confusion and anger, Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects over 5 million people in the United States. Alzheimer’s is a type of dementiathat attacks the brain, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.
Despite what some may think, Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging. It is more common among older people, but individuals of all ages have shown symptoms. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s but there is treatment that can temporarily slow the progress of symptoms. Thankfully, organizations and scientists around the world are making progress by consistently finding better ways to treat the disease, delay its onset, and prevent it from developing.
In an effort to help educate the residents and staff at The Scottish Home, we are proud to welcome the Alzheimer’s Association as they present Healthy Habits for a Healthier You. Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. We will also be using hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. At the end of this program, stick around for a Q&A where you can ask the questions important to you and your family. For centuries, we have known that the health of the brain and the body are connected. But now, science is able to provide insights on how to optimize our physical and cognitive health as we age!
